Product Description
Microporous ePTFE Membranes Laminated with Polypropylene Backing for Protection Vents
When it comes to protection vents and barriers within devices, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane filters play a crucial role. They allow for the passage of air and other gases, but they also serve as a barrier to larger molecules such as water. This remarkable composition makes PTFE membranes ideal for use in protective vents. For instance, within a transducer protector, a thin, dime-sized PTFE membrane is incorporated into the shell and functions as a vent. It allows air to flow through while simultaneously repelling contaminants. Given the sensitive nature of PTFE, additional support is necessary, and the microporous PTFE membranes we supply are made using bi-axially stretched ePTFE and come laminated with a polypropylene backing for higher mechanical strength, easy handling and excellent flexibility. ePTFE membrane filters are generally available in the form of rolls, which can be punched to the desired size and formats as per requirements.
ePTFE membranes are naturally hydrophobic filter materials that function as a barrier to confine fluids while allowing smooth passage of air and gas. Hydrophobic ePTFE membranes can be employed in various medical applications such as vents on intravenous (IV) infusion sets or as antibacterial air filters for transducer protectors. When compared to other types of membrane filters, ePTFE venting membranes stand out due to their exceptional combination of hydrophobic, water entry pressure resistance, broad chemical compatibility and oleophobic properties.
